working in resource-limited settings

Here’s to 2011…and what’s shaping up to be an unforgettable year. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever tried to do so much with so little available. I suppose this is a true test…of determination and perseverance.

Hooray – Essa crew is complete again! Everyone is back in the province!

I can sum up my diet for the past three weeks on one hand: bread, eggs, yogurt, nuts, and popcorn. Oh, and copious cups of tea. Haha.

Tonight’s dinner: a whole fried fish (7dhs from my fried fish man in Essa. On top of that, he gave me a free fish ball. :)), home-made nuoc mam (fish sauce), and brown rice-type grain! Yum, yum , yum!!! Oh, and canned lycee from Aswak Asalaam.

By the way, how do you know there are too many stray cats in your community? When you find yourself storing fish bones in the refrigerator until the next time you go into the city and haul your non-biodegradable trash with you so that the cats don’t climb over the walls of your house after they catch a waft of fish permeating out of your open courtyard.
