sleep deprived summer?
For a variety of reasons, I watched the starry sky go from dark to light last night/this morning.
If the amount of sleep I’ve gotten per night since returning to Morocco is indicative for the rest of the summer, then I won’t be getting much shuteye in the coming weeks.
community rounds and no long nails
Awesomely, I spent my first day making the rounds in my community.
Seeing as it’s Wednesday, I hoped that my day would start at the sbitar for vaccination day. Unfortunately, my counterpart seemed to think differently. Seeing him nowhere in sight upon my arrival at the sbitar, and not to mention the growing line of parents and babies, I called his cell phone to check whether he’d be coming in. The answer: Nope, he’s on vacation.
I greeted the hanut guy next door and I made a purchase at my regular hanut.
I had lunch with my host family. I gave the host siblings coloring books and pencils. I learned that my host father works in Agadir now. My finger nails are growing out and I haven’t had a chance to cut them. According to my host siblings, long nails are not good. Really, people here don’t miss a thing. Okay, yet another item to add to the culturally different list.
I watched a soap opera with my adopted host family. I gave the kids coloring books and pencils as well.
I greeted people I crossed paths with.
Oh, I also put up my (new) hammock on my roof. It’s too hot to sleep indoors so I’ll be sleeping in it tonight.
…back in rural Morocco
Morning update from my cousin, Tiffany:
today we were at dinner
and i asked who missed diana
raise your hand
because i like to do that randomly
and jade and kailey raised their hands
I miss my cousins bzaaf!
I wrapped up a work- and fun-filled week in Essa and I returned back to site this afternoon.
My house is (less) dirty than when I returned. I did some cleaning, unpacking, and studying. I finished Glee season 2. What else…
It was 100-degrees F in my house today. Looks like summer is officially in full effect.
Second summer, last summer…let’s do this lmigrib!
…back in Morocco!
You control your future, your destiny. What you think about comes about. By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be.
– Mark Victor Hansen
I’m back in Morocco.
What better way to return to Morocco than to work and hang out with a group of fabulous PCVs during the annual Gnaoua Music Festival in Essaouira!
I love that this quote is starting my week off. 🙂
Ready, set…11 more months of Morocco! Yea!
June 4-21: it’s time for my vacation!
June 4: CMN –> CDG –> LAX
June 15-19: Chicago and Evanston, Illinois
June 20-21: LAX –> CDG –>CMN
I will be on vacation for the next 2.5 weeks.
I won’t be blogging during that time. This vacation is much needed and much anticipated. No desire to spend precious R&R minutes to write here. I’ll be back soon enough!
(Thank you for reading. :))
