staying out of the village gossip

Posted in Uncategorized by Diana on October 5, 2011

Within any group, be it in an office setting or small community, people love to talk. What do they love to talk about? Other people.

Living in IminTlit, people often feel the need to loop into the latest (or rather any) town gossip.  I hear about who is a good person, who is not an honest person, etc. At the end of these conversations, without missing a beat, the person will then turn to me and say, “But don’t tell anyone, okay? Don’t tell anyone I told you.”

“Okay,” I oblige.

I mean, whom would I tell after all? Why would I want to get caught up in small village drama?

As an outsider, its inevitable that people will talk about me – what I wear, what I eat, how my hair is pulled back that day, the type of clothes I have hanging on my laundry line, and the list goes on.

I’m turning my outsider role on the community, though. I’m intentionally leaving myself out of the gossip by not asking about it.

I don’t want to be known as a gossiper. That’s just not who I am.
