i eat fat

Posted in Uncategorized by Diana on October 7, 2011

Yup, that’s right: I. Eat. Fat.

In Morocco, I eat more fat than I do in the US.

After being in Essa for over a year, I finally found a place (restaurant/café/whatever) that sells my liver and fat skewer sandwiches! In all fairness, I haven’t exactly tried looking because if I did I definitely could have found it much sooner. I don’t have to wait until I travel to Marrakech to look forward to these sandwiches.

The sandwiches here cost 6 dirhams. Of course, it depends how many skewers you want. at 2 dirhams per skewer, I choose to get 3. After the liver and fat are grilled, a man sticks the delicious pieces into a half disc of bread. He adds salt, cumin and, when available, hot sauce. De-Li-Ci-Ous!

What else…

Oh yes, there are my fat fish fillets. Mhmm! There are literally slabs of fat on them. What do I do? Eat them. Yes, simply…mouthwateringly delicious.

In all honestly, am I really eating fat? If I am, why am I sharing this on my blog?

Frankly, because 1) I like it and 2) Americans are overly fearful of eating fat or anything that resembles fat. Americans aren’t only fearful, they are judgmental – of foods they don’t know, of foods they don’t know how to eat and appreciate.

People, what it comes down to is this: moderation. Eat in moderation. Oh, and engage in some form of physical activity.

Those two ingredients: those are the secrets to fitness.

Notice, I didn’t say skinny. Why? Because being fit > skinny.

Breakfast this morning? Bread dipped in honey and olive oil. Washed down with a couple glasses of barely-sweetened mint tea. Delicious.
